Decisions to Make Before Ordering Shutters

If you have decided that Los Altos shutters are the right way to go in your home, it is an exciting decision to make. Shutters are beneficial for so many reasons and you will soon have all of those benefits. But just because you know you want shutters doesn’t mean you’re done making choices. In fact, you have a few more things you need to think through before you place your order. Here are some customization options to consider before taking the plunge.

What Framing style do you want?

There are many different styles when it comes to shutters. You can choose full shutters that open as one panel, café shutters that only cover half the window and give you a clear view at eye level, of double hung shutters that open separately at the top or bottom. Consider your uses before you make a decision. You may want a different type in different rooms as well.

Do you want Divider Rails?

A divider rail is another option for shutters. The stationary strip lets you open louvers and adjust them as necessary. You can get two separate strips so you can control the top and bottom louvers separately if you want. You don’t have to have dividers at all if you choose that option.

What Mounting Option will work best?

Shutters can be mounted on the inside or outside of the window opening. You will want to look at your windows to see if there is molding around the area. If you have decorative trim you want to show off, put the shutters on the inside of the window where they will attach directly to the window frame on hinges. If you don’t have cool trim, you can choose an outside mount to give your window a finished look.

What Louver Sizes do you want?

Shutters come in many different sizes and the louvers are varied as well. You can get 2.5”, 3.5”, or 4.5” as a standard. Larger louvers give you a clearer view while smaller louvers look more proportional on a smaller window. The middle option compliments tall ceilings and large windows, but the options are there for you to consider.

What type of Tilt do you prefer?

You can have a front tilt or a rear/hidden tilt on your shutters. Both options are functional, but the rear tilt will give you a better view since you won’t see the bar. This option is completely based on your preferences.
