T-Post Shutters

Wide windows present a specific engineering challenge for plantation shutters. Every shutter panel has a maximum width at which it remains structurally sound and can be supported by its hinges without sagging over time. On large and wide windows, simply adding more panels is not always the answer. More panels mean more weight on the outer hinges, which eventually causes the shutter to pull away from the frame and lose its alignment.

What a T-Post Does

A T-post is a vertical structural member that runs from the top of the frame to the bottom, dividing a wide window opening into two or more manageable sections. Each section then receives its own set of shutter panels sized appropriately for its width. The T-post is finished to match the shutter frame, so it reads as a clean, intentional architectural detail rather than an afterthought. The result is a wide window shutter installation that holds its shape, operates smoothly, and looks like it was designed that way from the start.

Built for Bay Area Homes

Large window shutters are common requests in the homes we work with across San Francisco, the Peninsula, and the greater Bay Area. Bay windows, picture windows, and wide living room openings all benefit from a properly engineered T-post configuration. Our basswood shutters can cover openings up to ten feet wide and beyond with the right T-post placement, without any compromise to structural performance or finished appearance.

Our team will assess your window, determine the right post placement, and build the entire system to your exact dimensions. Contact us or stop by our South San Francisco showroom to get started.
